Housing

- San Clemente Villages “guaranteed” on-campus housing application deadline was June 1, 2008. If you are interested in San Clemente and missed the deadline, please send an inquiry email to the Apartment Assignments Services Office at aptcontracts@housing.UCSB.edu.
- Community Housing Office has rental listings specifically for students. You can access this link with your PERM number (included in your admissions letter and/or emailed to you from the Office of the Registrar) and your Social Security Number (SSN).
- Sign up with the Graduate Student Association (GSA) listserv to receive emails about additional housing opportunities specifically for graduate students.
- Local newspaper listings are available via Santa Barbara News-Press.
- Many students have been successful with Craig's List Santa Barbara.
- In addition to these online resources, contact your department and ask about current graduate students in need of roommates.
Secured Housing
For graduate students who have already secured housing in San Clemente Villages, move in will be September 1, 2008. For more information, please call Apartment Assignments Services at (805) 893-4021 or aptcontracts@housing.ucsb.edu.
Temporary Housing: UC Santa Barbara’s “Student Hotel”
Temporary housing will be available on campus in the Santa Cruz Residence Hall from August 30 through the September 19. Cost is approximately $46.00-50.00 per night, per person (double occupancy, you will be assigned a roommate). No cash will be accepted. Payment is done online with a valid PERM number and BARC registration. If you have not registered, then a proof of intent to register is necessary. Check-in hours will be from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. daily. NO RESERVATIONS ARE NECESSARY. For more information and directions, call Santa Cruz Residence Hall’s main desk at (805) 893-2680 (this number will be accessible beginning mid-August).

Local Transportation
UC Santa Barbara’s general student handbook, the Kiosk, provides transportation information and activities around town. An ACCESS student ID card—with a current registration sticker from the Office of the Registrar—allows students to ride free on the Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District (MTD) buses: in Santa Barbara and Goleta, to and from campus.
