- What are the deadlines for Fall Quarter 2009? Deadline for fee payment is Thursday, September 24, in order to avoid a $50 late payment fee. Fellowship pay out begins approximately one week prior to the start of classes. Registration information and deadlines can be found on GOLD, or within the Schedule of Classes.
- What is the easiest way to determine and pay my Fees and/or Tuition? If you have received your bill for fees and/or tuition, and you know which fee offsets you will receive (Partial Fee Remission, paid health insurance, and Nonresident Tuition Reduction), determine your balance by using the fee structure tables for California residents and nonresidents. Pay the balance of your fees and/or tuition at the Cashier's Office or online by using Gaucho e-Bill.
- How do I find out the balance on my BARC Account? BARC balances
can be found by using MyBARC or
by calling the Billing Office at (805) 893-3756.
- How are Fee Credits and/or Tuition Reductions applied to my BARC Account?
- If you qualify for Fee Remission as a Teaching Assistant, Associate, Graduate Student Researcher, Reader or Remedial Tutor: Your department's staff member who handles employment reports your fee remission eligibility to the Graduate Student Fee Remission (GSFR) system.
- If you are receiving a departmental fellowship: Graduate Division processes your fee credit when notification of the fellowship is received from your academic department.
- If you are receiving a central (University) fellowship: Refer to your Graduate Division award notification letter.
- If you are receiving an extramural fellowship: The processing of fee and/or tuition credits depends on the nature of the fellowship.
- If you qualify for Nonresident Tuition Reduction: This service is
not a function of Graduate Division. It is a reduced assessment of tuition that
is administered by the Office of the Registrar based
on information that is provided by the Academic Services section of Graduate
Division. The Nonresident Tuition Reduction is for graduate doctoral students
who have advanced to candidacy, subject to the understanding that (1) a graduate
doctoral student may receive the reduced nonresident tuition rate for a maximum
of three years, and (2) any such student who continues to be enrolled or who
re-enrolls after receiving the reduced fee for three years will be charged the
full nonresident tuition rate that is in effect at that time.
- What if I cannot pay my Fees and/or Tuition by the Late Payment Deadline? There
are a number of reasons why you may not be able to pay your fees and/or tuition
by the late payment deadline. However, you must establish "fees paid" status
by the deadline in order to avoid a late charge and protect the classes for which
you have registered. In such an instance, we recommend that you enroll in a fee
payment plan. The fee is $25. Note that you must pay for your graduate student
health insurance before you can take the payment plan option.
For more information regarding fee payment plans please see www.busserv.ucsb.edu/faqs.htm. You may also consult a customer service representative at the Central Cashier's Office, Student Affairs and Administrative Services Building (SAASB) 1212. The Payment Plan Agreement Form is available online.
- How will I receive my Stipend? Students who receive a stipend payment as part of a fellowship package will receive that payment from the Billing Office, Student Affairs and Administrative Services Building (SAASB)
1212. You can arrange to receive your stipend via direct deposit. For complete information please see the Billing Office.
Before a stipend payment can be disbursed to a graduate student there are three very important criteria that must be met: (1) You must be registered in courses for the quarter in which the payment has been prepared; (2) Your fees must be paid (either by you or your fellowship) for that quarter; and (3) Your Billing/Accounts Receivable (BARC) account must be clear of all other charges due. You can use the Fellowships section of MyBARC for details about your stipend disbursements.
- How can I receive my Stipend check if I will not be in Santa Barbara? Occasionally,
students who receive stipend payments are not in the Santa Barbara area when the
checks are prepared and available for disbursement. If this situation happens to
you, the arrangements can be made with the Billing Office.
- Who is required to submit a FAFSA? All new and continuing domestic
students are required to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
Although the deadline for priority consideration is March 2 apply online NOW if you wish to be considered for financial support
At this site you can also find the Renewal FAFSA, designed for students who completed the FAFSA last year. If you file a Renewal FAFSA, many answers are based on your prior year's application, which cuts down on the number of questions you have to complete
Be sure to list the University of California, Santa Barbara, in Step 6. Our school code number is 001320.
As a public institution, a large share of our fellowship funds are provided through financial aid monies. Information from the FAFSA is used to determine eligibility and fund sources for support packages.
- How do I establish residency in order to pay enrollment fees at resident
rates? A U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen, must establish residency
in California before he or she is entitled to pay enrollment fees at resident
rates. University requirements for establishing residency are independent from
those of other types of residency, such as voting.
For detailed information, please consult the Office of the Registrar's Establishing California Residency for Fee Purposes. You may also refer inquiries to the Residence Deputy, Office of the Registrar, Student Affairs and Administrative Services Building, Room 1105.
